Does the Garner Dolphins
Participate In the TSA Program?
Yes, the Garner Dolphins swim under Tarheel
Swimming Association (TSA) rules. TSA sets up our meet
schedule and settles any disputes that may arise. Each
team has a TSA representative at the meet. The Garner Dolphins
TSA Representative is Tina Hutchins. You can learn more
about the Tarheel
Swim Association at their website
Do we have to be a member
of the Heather Hills Pool to Join?
Yes, TSA rules state that in order
to swim for a summer league team, your family must
be a member of the resident pool. For more information
on joining the Heather Hills Pool / Garner Swim & Rec.
Club, please visit Heather
Hills Club or call Buddy Mozingo at 772-5618.
When is My Child Ready
for the Swim Team?
Any child who expresses an interest in the swim team
is encouraged to come out and attend several practices.
If you are unsure if your child is ready for competitive
swimming, the team coaches will be glad to evaluate your
child's swimming ability and advise you as to the suitability
of the swim team for your child.
Swim team is not swim lessons. Although each swimmer
will improve their swimming skills through competitive
swimming, the swim team is not staffed to provide a great
deal of individual instruction to small children. To
be a member of the team, each young child should meet
a minimum skill level (they do not have to be good swimmers).
The pool does offer swim lessons if needed.
As a general rule, 6
and Under age group swimmers should be able and willing
to jump from the side of the pool, go under water,
and come up swimming (moving) unassisted. Age group
7 & 8 swimmers should be able to dive (sort
of) from the starting blocks and swim the length of the
pool without assistance or stopping. Swimmers ages 7
to 18 should be able to swim unassisted before joining
the team.
If the coaches feel that a child is not ready for the
swim team, they will talk to the parents and suggest
individual swim lessons for the child before returning
to the team. The coaches will make the final determination
of a swimmer's suitability for the swim team.

What do we do if its raining
and their is a swim meet scheduled?
Please come to the pool anyway. TSA rules
allow for rain delays and often the storm will clear and
we get the meet in. If a meet is called because of the
weather, it will be held the next night...same place, same
time. Rest assured that your children will not be swimming
in weather that looks at all threatening.
